Capacity Expansion with Addition of Two New Reactors and Expanded Production Facility

Colonial Chemical, Inc., a leading U.S. manufacturer of sustainable surfactants and specialty ingredients, has announced the upcoming addition of two new reactors at its South Pittsburg, Tennessee manufacturing facility. “This investment is a significant milestone for Colonial Chemical,” said David Anderson Jr., President of Colonial Chemical, Inc. “The addition of these two reactors and the larger production space will allow us to further increase production capacity while ensuring we continue to deliver reliable supply, innovative chemistries, and consistent quality that our customers have come to expect. We’re excited to bring this expansion online by the end of the year.”

This expansion will join a growing list of recent investments at the South Pittsburg facility, underscoring Colonial Chemical’s long-term growth strategy and commitment to sustainable, high-performance surfactant manufacturing.

Suga®Nate 160NC Gets OSPAR OCNS Gold Band for a 17 ½” section (lowest hazard)

Colonial Chemical is pleased to announce a recent regulatory update for one of its leading products. The Offshore Chemical Notification Scheme (OCNS) team has reviewed information about Suga®Nate 160NC for use as a lubricant, foaming agent, stabilizing agent, corrosion inhibitor and/or dispersant during offshore drilling operations involving 100% environmental discharge and in accordance with the Harmonised Offshore Chemical Notification Format (HOCNF). Suga®Nate 160NC received a Hazard Quotient between 0 and 1 for a 17 ½” section, also known as the OSPAR OCNS Gold Band (lowest hazard). Suga®Nate 160NC received a Hazard Quotient between 1 and 30 for 12 ¼” and 8 ½” sections, also known as the OSPAR OCNS Silver Band (second lowest hazard).

OSPAR is the mechanism by which 15 Governments and the EU cooperate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic. To reduce the overall impact of offshore chemicals on the marine environment, OSPAR has adopted a harmonized mandatory control system (HMCS) for use and reduction of discharges of offshore chemicals by the offshore oil and gas industry. This system promotes the shift towards the use of less hazardous or preferably non-hazardous substances. The OCNS Team at Cefas registers chemicals used in offshore oil and gas applications for use in the UK and Netherlands waters.

More information may be found on The Definitive Ranked Lists of Registered Products on the OCNS section of the Cefas website (https://www.cefas.co.uk/data-and-publications/ocns/).

Colonial Chemical Donates SCBA to Local Fire and Rescue Department

Colonial Chemical, Inc. donated two Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units to the New Hope Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. SCBA units are the primary tools that provide the greatest amount of airway protection from toxic gas and harmful chemicals. Each unit includes a cabinet and spare bottle. Department member Jimmy Haley accepted the units on behalf of the local department.

Speaking of the donations, Jerry Pittman, EHS&S Manager, Colonial Chemical, stated, “These units were originally secured to use for a purpose that’s now become unnecessary. Since they are redundant and we knew the local rescue service could make better use of these, we decided to pass them along. We sent them off to be completely retested and recertified by Southeast Rubber and Safety – which means they’re 100% ready when needed. I’m sure they’ll be very useful if the opportunity ever presents itself here or elsewhere.”

The New Hope Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is an all-volunteer operation on call 24/7 and provides fire and rescue support for communities in Marion County. There are 22 trained members who serve in that department.
